Terms, Privacy & Refunds

Important information about course terms, refunds, data collection, analytics, and payment processing.

Terms & Conditions

  • HSK recorded course access is valid for 12 months after activation.
  • Speaking Lab and 1-on-1 lesson packages are valid for 3 months from the date of purchase.
  • Speaking Lab students should complete the 15-minute online language assessment before payment.
  • Speaking Lab classes cannot be changed after the group has been arranged and the class time has been confirmed.
  • For 1-on-1 lessons, students may cancel or reschedule at least 2 hours before class. Cancellations within 2 hours before class are not supported and the lesson may be counted as used.
  • Roots will wait in the 1-on-1 classroom for 15 minutes. If the student does not arrive within 15 minutes, the class will be closed and the lesson will be counted as used.

Refund Policy

  • HSK recorded course: For early bird students who purchase before August 1, a full refund is available until August 3. For students who purchase on or after August 1, a full refund is available within 3 days after purchase. After the refund period, the course is non-refundable.
  • Speaking Lab: A full refund is available before the group is successfully arranged. After the group is arranged and the class time is confirmed, refunds are not available.
  • 1-on-1 lessons: Unused lessons can be refunded after discussion with Roots. Refunds are calculated based on the number of remaining unused lessons and the actual situation.
  • Chengdu & Chongqing experience deposit: Non-refundable after payment.

Privacy Policy

The website may collect name, email, country, WhatsApp or WeChat, Chinese level, learning goals, scheduling preferences, course interest, travel inquiry details, and submission date when you provide them for a course, inquiry, or purchase.

This information is used to reply to inquiries, arrange courses, confirm purchases, provide learning support, and communicate with students. Personal information is not sold.

Necessary storage

Necessary browser storage is used for website functions and security, including remembering your analytics choice and supporting authenticated Student Center and Admin sessions. Declining optional analytics does not prevent browsing, inquiries, payments, sign-in, or course access.

Optional analytics

Google Analytics, Vercel Web Analytics, and Vercel Speed Insights load on public marketing pages only after you choose “Allow analytics.” They help Roots Chinese understand page usage, campaign performance, device categories, approximate location, and website performance. Advertising storage, advertising user data, and ad personalization remain disabled.

Marketing parameters are stored only after analytics permission is granted. Analytics page addresses retain only approved campaign parameters: source, utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, and utm_term. Other query parameters are excluded. Student and Admin pages do not load these marketing analytics tools.

For purchases started from this website, a short non-identifying consent status may be passed to Stripe so that a purchase or later refund is measured only when analytics permission was granted. Direct or older Payment Link purchases without that status remain unmeasured in Google Analytics. Stripe and Roots Chinese payment records remain the source of financial truth.

Your choice

Your analytics preference is kept for up to 180 days. You can change or withdraw it at any time using Cookie Settings in the website footer. Withdrawing permission stops future optional analytics on subsequent page loads and removes Roots Chinese marketing attribution storage and Google Analytics cookies on a best-effort basis. It does not remove necessary authentication storage.

Service providers and requests

Inquiry and student records may be stored in Supabase. Transactional emails may be sent through Resend. Payment is processed through Stripe, and sensitive card information is handled by Stripe rather than stored by Roots Chinese.

Information is kept only for as long as reasonably needed for customer service, financial records, course delivery, and legal obligations. Students can request access, correction, or deletion by emailing zhaoroots@gmail.com. Some transaction records may need to be retained where required by law.
